Roller Shutter Door Safety Brake — 30mm Keyed Shaft, with Microswitch

A mechanical safety brake — also called an anti-fall or anti-drop device — fitted to the barrel shaft of a roller shutter door. In normal operation it turns freely with the door and does nothing at all. If the spring, chain, coupling or gearbox fails and the curtain starts to run away, the brake senses the overspeed and locks the shaft, holding the door where it is instead of letting it fall.

On a heavy roller shutter, a curtain in free-fall is the single most dangerous failure the door can have. This is the part that stops it.

Integrated microswitch

The unit carries a microswitch wired out on a two-core flying lead. When the brake trips, the switch breaks the motor control circuit so the operator cannot keep driving the door against a locked shaft. Your installer wires it into the motor's safety circuit — it is not optional, and the brake should never be fitted with the switch left unconnected.

Fitting

• Shaft: 30mm keyed bore — fits a 30mm barrel shaft with a standard key
• Mounting: zinc-plated steel L-bracket with two bolt holes, fixes to the door's end plate or side frame
• Orientation: the housing is marked Closing direction with an arrow — the brake is direction-sensitive and must be fitted with the arrow matching the way your door closes
• Construction: cast alloy housing on a yellow-passivated zinc-plated steel bracket
• Electrical: microswitch pre-wired to a two-core lead for connection into the motor circuit

Industrial and commercial roller shutter doors, warehouse and workshop doors, loading bays, storage units — anywhere a heavy curtain is over a doorway people walk through. Many insurers and workplace safety assessments expect an anti-fall device on doors of this type.

Warranty
